17th of July to the 21st of September in the Gate Theatre. Doors open at 7pm. Show starts at 7:30pm.

DANCING AT LUGHNASA centres on the Mundy sisters in Donegal as the Constitution of Ireland is being conceived and the hopes of summer and the possibility of love feel like they are in the grasp of these extraordinary, ordinary women.

It is a play about female resilience and the sacrifices we choose, and are forced, to make. Although inevitably tragic, it celebrates the truth and beauty of these women and reminds us of how far away freedom is for so many.

In the warmth of the Donegal harvest of 1936, the five Mundy sisters, Kate, Maggie, Rose, Agnes and Chris, love, survive, fight, and dance. This unforgettable summer brings the possibility of joy and love to these extraordinary, ordinary women.

Brian Friel’s moving and heartwarming masterpiece about family, home and belonging returns to the Gate stage for the first time in over 20 years. This timeless drama about resilience and courage will continue to resonate with this stunning new production, directed by Caroline Byrne.
