Metallica is an iconic American heavy metal band, formed in Los Angeles in 1981 by drummer Lars Ulrich and vocalist/guitarist James Hetfield. Renowned for pioneering thrash metal, they are part of the genre's "Big Four" alongside Slayer, Megadeth, and Anthrax.
