Bord Gáis Energy Theatre

The Bord Gáis Energy Theatre is a prominent architectural monument built by Daniel Libeskind, a world-renowned architect. According to Libeskind, "the theatre overlooks a public square." The plaza invites the audience to view the soaring glass façade of the theatre, which tilts back in space in diagonal pleats, much like a big outdoor lobby. The public is welcome to look at its Piranesian interior, which features horizontal ramps and diagonal pilotes.

The design concept for the theatre is, in fact, stages - the theatre’s ‘real’ stage and the plaza as another, equally real but more provisional and changing stage. By night, when… the theatre’s tilting façade and plaza are illuminated, the entire complex transforms into a multi-experiential stage.

The theatre began construction in January 2007 and opened in March 2010 with Swan Lake performed by The Russian State Ballet, which included Bolshoi stars. With its excellent sound quality, stunning décor, and distinctive building, the theatre rapidly became a crowd favourite. Now in its second decade, it continues to enrich the cultural lives of the audiences, to develop creative awareness, and ultimately to inspire and nurture the future of live theatre in Ireland.

The Bord Gáis Energy Theatre has become an important part of the Irish cultural landscape. A visit to the Theatre will enchant you and your loved ones with a world of wonder, imagination, emotion, and creativity.

Bord Gáis Energy Theatre can hold up to 2111 guests on any of the shows that are performed here and endeavours to present a diverse programme of world class entertainment and an unparalleled theatrical experience in an architecturally majestic setting. The theatre offers the best of Broadway and the West End alongside new, niche and local productions to as wide an audience as possible.
